Oxidation

The finish of a car is always wet, even if it is dry. To make sense of this statement, consider the fact that paint needs certain oils to keep its fresh glossy look. Ultraviolet rays from the sun and smog can dry up these essential oils, and the result is a dull and flat finish known as oxidation. If you could look at oxidized paint under a high powered microscope, you would see a surface that looks dry and cracked like the desert.   When it occurs, oxidation appears as dull and dry spots on the finish and usually is first noticed on the flat horizontal areas of the car. If paint residue appears on your wash mitt, you definitely have an oxidation problem. The solution to oxidation is to remove the uppermost surface of dead paint. To do that we have three basic choices:

  • Since cleaners and polishes removes paint, they will also remove the wax on top of the paint. Be sure to rewax any area that has had a polish, cleaner or rubbing compound treatment.
  • You won’t often need to use a polish or cleaner if you diligently follow the advice in the WebCars! Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts page. If you wash your car regularly and maintain a good coat of wax, contaminants won’t have the chance to ruin the cars finish.
  • If you have any concerns about your cars surface, consider consulting a detailing professional. Shop around for one with experience and who knows their car surfaces. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what your car needs depending on its situation. Paying them to do the work has the distinct advantage of knowing the job will be done correctly. You can then regularly wash and wax the car, having gotten off to a good start by having your paint professionally prepared.

All vehicles build up odors from regular use. There are the usual spills from food and beverages which often fall into difficult to clean areas. How can you effectively remove these odors from cars and other vehicles?  The OdorFree ozone generator is the solution. The OdorFree System has been used in Cars, Vans, and Truck fleets and is widely used by Car Dealerships, Auto Detailers, Limo Services and Rental Car Agencies. Car Sticker Removal

Bumper stickers leave a sticky, ugly residue behind once you remove the actual  sticker. You may not even be able to remove the sticker itself because the glue  will not budge. You cannot use the same methods for removing a sticker from a  car’s bumper as you can with other surfaces, since you may scratch the car’s  paint or damage the finish. Fortunately WD-40 will not damage the paint on  modern cars,  giving you an edge in removing the glue once and for all. 1 Heat the bumper sticker glue with a hair dryer. Put the hair dryer on the  highest setting and blow the hot air on the glue for about three to four  minutes.

2 Spray down the glue with WD-40 and let it sit for five  minutes.

3 Remove the bumper sticker glue with a plastic scraper. You will have to make  several passes with the scraper, making sure to clean off glue residue that has  gathered on its edge.

4 Soak a microfiber cloth with rubbing alcohol. Rub the area where the bumper  sticker was with the cloth to remove any leftover glue.

5 Wash the area where the bumper sticker was applied. Apply a good coat of wax  and polish it thoroughly.

How To Wash Your Car

You’ve spent plenty of money the purchase of your car or truck, now the question arises, ‘How do I take care of it?”.  The answer is vital to retaining the value of your vehicle and reducing future costs due to premature deterioration.

Much has been written on how to properly maintain a vehicles appearance and while most of the tips in this article certainly aren’t new, perhaps they may help you think about things in a different light.

Vehicle enthusiasts range from those who religiously wash or quick detail their vehicles daily, to those who love caring for their vehicle but only get the chance to wash them weekly or bi-weekly. Both categories of enthusiasts cringe at the very thought of taking their car or truck to a car wash, otherwise known as “automatic swirl factories”.   In this article I hope to give you some ideas and tips that will help you maintain your vehicles appearance and teach you ways to avoid, or at least minimize creating swirl marks.

Weekly Car Interior Cleanup

Here’s what I recommend as a weekly routine for the interior:

  • Wipe down all vinyl, leather and plastic surfaces with a damp cloth.  A microfiber detailing towel is   excellent for this task, as it will leave a lint-free, dust-free finish.
  • Pull out your floor mats, and shake or brush off the dirt and debris.
  • Pick up trash (that old banana peel you tossed into the backseat), and empty   the ashtray and console storage bins.
  • Wipe down your door jambs and doorsills with a damp towel.
  • Wipe down your interior glass and your rearview mirror with a damp   microfiber detailing towel.  If your windows are relatively clean, you don’t   need to use a glass cleaner.

Very recently, a new product category has emerged for the car interior that’s   equivalent to the exterior quick detailing spray.  Interior cockpit sprays, like Sonus Cockpit Detailer,   combine light cleaning and protective capabilities in a spray-and-wipe system.    If you’re looking for an interior product that keeps your cockpit looking   perfect, you might give it a try.  In my mind, this is a much better solution   than layer after layer of protectant.

Removing Car Emblems.

Removing the car badges from your car will require minimal tools, products, and skill levels. While there are many ways to go about any task, I have condensed this with my operating philosophy in mind, “Minimal effort; maximum results”.

The 4 Steps of Removing Car Emblems

  • Remove emblem itself
  • Remove double sided tape
  • Remove adhesive residue
  • Polish area

Rotate Your Car Tires

The primary reason that it is becoming harder to rotate tires is because of what is called TPMS or Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This system does just what it’s name suggests. It monitors the pressure in your tires to be sure that it is properly inflated giving you increased tire life and better gas mileage.

So what’s the big deal you ask? We’ll the “problem” with these systems is that each tire must have a sensor inside of it that can tell the computer how much pressure is in it. This would not normally pose a problem, but each of these sensors are “marked” by the computer so the cars computer knows which tire is which.

This means that the computer knows the difference between the right front tire and the right rear tire.

So when “Joe Carowner” goes to rotate their tires the computer can no longer tell which tire is which and it will turn on a light on in the instrument panel that you would never be able to get to go out.

-Most TPMS sensors have to be reset using a scan tool whenever the tires are rotated and some of them even have to be reset even when you are just putting air in the tire.

Starting in 2008 the government requires that car manufacturers use this system on their cars. This means that your car for sure has this system if it was made after 2008. Many cars that were made before this date have this system so be sure to check your owners manual before you try to do anything related to your tires.
